I have to copy the following structure to a char[] buffer.

on copy the buffer having first two unsigned char data and short (1,1,2) and size is only 3 bytes. reaming data was not copying.
Please help where i am doing wrong.

Your code is fine; your approach to determine whether the contents of the buffer are correct is flawed.
You have not told us how you have determined that the contents of the buffer are wrong, but from your description I suspect that you did something like printf( "%s\n", sendbuf ). Well, that won't work, because your buffer does not really contain characters, it contains binary data.
Specifically, your short usErrorFlag is two bytes long, and since the value you store in it is 2, this means that it will be stored in sendbuf in two consecutive bytes, one byte will have the value of 0x02 and the next byte will have the value of 0x00. (Assuming, from hints in your description, that your hardware is "Little Endian".) So, when you try to view the contents of your sendbuf as a string, printf() will stop printing as soon as it encounters the 0x00 byte.
So, your code is correct. Proceed with sending your sendbuf to your UDP socket.

If I read "sendbuf" I immediately assume that you are sending data from one computer to another. These computers will have different compilers, the compilers will for example order their bytes in a different order. memcpy isn't going to work on all compilers.
I suggest you find where the contents of sendbuf is documented, and assign the individual bytes accordingly. For example
sendbuf [0] = struct_data.bIsEncrypted;
sendbuf [1] = struct_data.bIsError;
sendbuf [2] = struct_data.uIsErrorFlag >> 8;
sendbuf [3] = struct_data.uIsErrorFlag & 0xff;
This makes your code independent of byte ordering, independent of struct padding, independent of reordering of items once you are not using a POD, and so on. In your case I would bet money that there is at least padding between byteNumDABs and usBagId, and at the end.
(Bytes 2 and 3 might be exactly the other way round, that's why you find a spec for that data structure).

Converting a struct to char array using memcpy

I am trying to convert the following struct to a char array so that I can send it via the serial port.

I then convert it to a char array using the following:
char b[sizeof(struct foo)];
memcpy(b, &dvar, sizeof(struct foo));
However for some reason I get these trailing values in the char array
0x0A 0xFF
I initially thought it was getting the values because when i cast it to a char array it was effectively casting it to a string so I though the was the NULL '\0'
Any help will be appreciated.

On modern processors, sizeof(struct data download) needs to be aligned on 32bits boundaries. Your data structure size is 8 chars + 1 short (16 bits) integer. The compiler needs to add 2 chars to the size of the structure to be able to handle it correctly when assigning it.
Since you're doing communication over a serial line and know exactly what you're sending, you might as well specify the exact number of bytes you're willing to send over your serial lines: 2 +/*1 short */ + 8 (8 bytes).
I have a sneaky suspicion you are using an 8bit microcontroller!
You can debug by printing b[sizeof(foo)], and b[sizeof(foo)+1]
These will be your two characters.
If you noticed, you should not be referencing these, they are outside the bounds of your char array. eg n element array [0..(n-1)] (copied from your struct)
If you add an unused element to your struct(or increase the size of your final member) the char array can be terminated '\0' -compiler probably wants to do this.
Or do a pointer assignment as #Melebius has shown.

String is not null terminated error

I'm having a string is not null terminated error, though I'm not entirely sure why. The usage of std::string in the second part of the code is one of my attempt to fix this problem, although it still doesn't work.
My initial codes was just using the buffer and copy everything into client_id[]. The error than occurred. If the error is correct, that means I've got either client_ id OR theBuffer does not have a null terminator. I'm pretty sure client_id is fine, since I can see it in debug mode. Strange thing is buffer also has a null terminator. No idea what is wrong.

Methinks that problem lies in this line:
sendTalkPackets(next_token1, sizeof(next_token1) + 1, id_clientUse, (unsigned int)std::stoi(theTarget));
sizeof(next_token1)+1 will always gives 5 (on 32 bit platform) because it return size of pointer not size of char array.
One thing which could be causing this (or other problems): As
buffersize, you pass sizeof(next_token1) + 1. next_token1 is
a pointer, which will have a constant size of (typically) 4 or 8. You
almost certainly want strlen(next_token1) + 1. (Or maybe without the
+ 1; conventions for passing sizes like this generally only include
the '\0' if it is an output buffer. There are a couple of other
places where you're using sizeof, which may have similar problems.
But it would probably be better to redo the whole logic to use
std::string everywhere, rather than all of these C routines. No
worries about buffer sizes and '\0' terminators. (For protocol
buffers, I've also found std::vector<char> or std::vector<unsigned char>
quite useful. This was before the memory in std::string was
guaranteed to be contiguous, but even today, it seems to correspond more
closely to the abstraction I'm dealing with.)
You can't just do
std::string theMessage(buffer);
theMessage += "0";
This fails on two fronts:
The std::string constructor doesn't know where buffer ends, if buffer is not 0-terminated. So theMessage will potentially be garbage and include random stuff until some zero byte was found in the memory beyond the buffer.
Appending string "0" to theMessage doesn't help. What you want is to put a zero byte somewhere, not value 0x30 (which is the ascii code for displaying a zero).
The right way to approach this, is to poke a literal zero byte buffersize slots beyond the start of the buffer. You can't do that in buffer itself, because buffer may not be large enough to accomodate that extra zero byte. A possibility is:

newbuffer[buffersize] = 0; // literal zero value
Or you can construct a std::string, whichever you prefer.

Put int to existing buffer

I have a code below, but i can't put int to my buffer.

In ntohl(buffer[1]); value of buffer[1] will be taken (a char) and will be casted into long.This will cause on a little endian machine to take value at &buffer[1] which is obviously 0 for value less than 224(unsigned) as you have called ntohl earlier which reverses byte order.
And if you are really interested to look into the buffer then try

You are putting the value into the buffer correctly, but you are not checking it correctly afterwards. ntohl(buffer[1]) is retrieving the 1-byte unsigned char value that is inside the second slot of the buffer by itself, and then extending it to a 4-byte value when passing it to ntohl(). What you need to do instead is retrieve the 4-byte unsigned long value that occupies the second, third, fourth, and fifth slots of the buffer and use it as-is:
ntohl(*reinterpret_cast<u_long*>(buffer+1));
Or:
u_long version;
memcpy(&version, buffer+1, 4);
ntohl(version);

Endian-ness in a char array containing binary characters

I'm building some code to read a RIFF wav file and I've bumped into something odd.
The first 4 bytes of the file header are the word RIFF in big-endian ascii coding:
0x5249 0x4646
I read this first element using:
char *fileID = new char[4];
filestream.read(fileID,4);
When I write this to screen the results are as expected:
std::cout << fileID << std::endl;
>> RIFF
Now, the next 4 bytes give the size of the file, but crucially they're little-endian.
So, I write a little function to flip the bytes, based on a union:

This looks good to me, except when I call it, the value returned is totally wrong. Interestingly, the following code (where the bytes are not reversed!) works correctly:

This has thoroughly confused me. Is the union somehow reversing the bytes for me?! If not, how are the bytes being converted to int correctly without being reversed?
I think there's some facet of endian-ness here that I'm ignorant to..
You are simply on a little-endian machine, and the "RIFF" string is just a string and thus neither little- nor big-endian, but just a sequence of chars. You don't need to reverse the bytes on a little-endian machine, but you need to when operating on a big-endian.
You need to figure of the endianess of your machine. #include <sys/param.h> will help you do that.
You could also use the fact that network byte order is big ended (if my memory serves me correctly - you need to check). In which case convert to big ended and use the ntohs function. That should work on any machine that you compile the code on.

C/C++ read a byte from an hexinput from stdin

Can't exactly find a way on how to do the following in C/C++.
Input : hexdecimal values, for example: ffffffffff...
I've tried the following code in order to read the input :
uint16_t twoBytes;
scanf("%x",&twoBytes);
Thats works fine and all, but how do I split the 2bytes in 1bytes uint8_t values (or maybe even read the first byte only). Would like to read the first byte from the input, and store it in a byte matrix in a position of choosing.
uint8_t matrix[50][50]
Since I'm not very skilled in formating / reading from input in C/C++ (and have only used scanf so far) any other ideas on how to do this easily (and fast if it goes) is greatly appreciated .
Edit: Found even a better method by using the fread function as it lets one specify how many bytes it should read from the stream (stdin in this case) and save to a variable/array.

size - Size in bytes of each element to be read.

%x reads an unsigned int, not a uint16_t (thought they may be the same on your particular platform).
To read only one byte, try this:

uint8_t byte = byteTmp;
This reads an unsigned int, but stops after reading two characters (two hex characters equals eight bits, or one byte).
You should be able to split the variable like this:
uint8_t LowerByte=twoBytes & 256;
uint8_t HigherByte=twoBytes >> 8;
A couple of thoughts:
1) read it as characters and convert it manually - painful
2) If you know that there are a multiple of 4 hexits, you can just read in twobytes and then convert to one-byte values with high = twobytes << 8; low = twobyets & FF;
