QWinTaskbarProgress won't show - c++

I'm using windows7 and Qt5.3.0
I added below to my MainWindow's constructor but nothing shows on my taskbar. Did I miss something?
QWinTaskbarProgress * pTaskbarProgress = new QWinTaskbarProgress(this);
pTaskbarProgress->setMinimum(0);
pTaskbarProgress->setMaximum(100);
pTaskbarProgress->setValue(50);
pTaskbarProgress->show();

In fact, it seems like calling
button->setWindow(widget->windowHandle());
in QMainWindow constructor doesn't work and QWinTaskbarProgress won't show at all even after calling setVisible(true) or show().
If created in the QMainWindow constructor it has to be called once the Window is shown like in:

Seems to me like you have to set this as part of a QWinTaskbarButton.

The history behind this class is that it was part of QWinTaskbarButton, thus it was inherently tightly coupled with that class. You can see the relevant upstream commit that began the refactoring and hence decoupling:
Refactor QWinTaskbarProgress out of QWinTaskbarButton
You are right that it is not too explicit in QWinTaskbarProgress' documentation, so this could be potentially improved upstream, but the QWinTaskbarButton example as well as the Music Player example shows the point, namely you have to replace this line:

with:
QWinTaskbarButton * pTaskbarButton = new QWinTaskbarButton(this);
pTaskbarButton->setWindow(windowHandle());
QWinTaskbarProgress * pTaskbarProgress = pTaskbarButton->progress();
You may wish to set the overlay icon as well for the taskbar button with either a custom image or something like what the Music Player examples does:
pTaskbarButton->setOverlayIcon(style()->standardIcon(QStyle::SP_MediaPlay));

qt prevent qdialog/window from moving with mainwindow

Env
OS X 10.6.8 ... and later, Windows XP ... and later.
Qt 4.7 (has to be, legacy issues, OS X 10.6.8 must be supported, Qt5 won't do it)
Problem
I have opened a second window in my application. It behaves as I want it to, except that if the MainWindow in the application moves, so does this window. That behavior is unwanted (actually more like "toxic and user-unfriendly").
The Qt docs say not to call move() from within moveEvent(), and anyway moveEvent() only shows up after window has stopped moving, not even while moving, which would, even if I did use it successfully, result in second window moving and snapping back, which would be pretty awful.
I thought to try overriding move() and not calling QDialog::move(), but that didn't work, it seems it cannot be overridden; rfview window still follows mainwindow around.
Perhaps I am opening the window wrong:

Basically, if the user drags/re-positions MainWindow, I do not want the rfview window to follow.

How to set text below the QToolButton in QT not below the icon

I'm using QToolButton and I set the icon.
Now I want Text "below the QToolButton", "Not below the icon".
Is there any way to achieve this in C++,QT in Linux ?
I've found myself in the same position a while back ago while I was making an application for an embedded Linux system.
I haven't found a straight forward solution (I was searching for a way to achieve it with CSS).
What I ended up doing, was creating a new QWidget (using the designer). Then placing the button in it with a QLabel under it.
Then added a simple static function

And then add those new QWidgets to your pannel using code (maybe someone knows how to get it in the default toolbar, but I haven't searched for that myself yet since I never needed it).

I'm sorry, I forgot to add something about the click event. The click event was mainly why I made a QWidget out of it!
I just used the connect function [I belive on the whole button like: connect(this->menuButtons[0], ...]

How to put osgEarth's ViewerWidget into an tabbed MdiArea?

Is there something special about putting osgEarth's ViewerViewer into a QMdiArea? I created a QMdiArea as central Widget (called setCentralWidget) instead of taking osgEarth's viewer directly as central widget.

mdiArea->addSubWindow(viewerWidget); // this doesn't work, globe is not drawn
Everything I tried didn't worked... except osgEarth's ViewerWidget is set as central widget of my MainWindow. Also tried MultiViewerWidget without any success but because I need only one view the ViewerWidget should be ok, or not?
I had a look into the examples but didn't succed to use one of them as starting point.
Any hints? Thank's in advance.

This works well with qt 4.8.4+osgearth 2.3
Try setting the subwindow's geometry before starting the UI.
QMdiSubWindow* sw = mdiArea->addSubWindow(viewerWidget);
sw->setGeometry(...);
Otherwise OSG will probably become confused.
Got this answer by Gwaldron in the osgEarth forum here and it worked.
Also setting a minimum size for the viewerWidget will help (e.g. for positioning on TabWidget). See my question and answer here.

Using images in QListWidget, is this possible?

I am using QT to create a chat messenger client. To display the list of online users, I'm using a QListWidget, as created like this:

Users are shown by constantly refreshing the list, like this: (Note: There are different channels, with different userlists, so refreshing it is the most efficient thing to do, as far as I know.)

This has always worked perfectly. The line that I commented out is the one I have problems with: my current goal is to be able to display a user's online status with an image, which represents whether they are busy, away, available, etc. Using setIcon() does absolutely nothing though, apparently; the items still show up as they used to, without icons.
I'm aware that this is probably not the way this function needs to be used, but I have found little documentation about it online, and absolutely no useful examples of implementations. My question is, can anybody help me with fixing this problem?
This is how you may conduct your debugging:
Try the constructor that has both icon and text as arguments.
Try to use that icon in another context to ensure it is displayable (construct a QIcon with same argument and use it elsewhere, e.g. QLabel!).
Use icon() from the QListWidgetItem to receive back the icon and then look at that QIcon.
Create a new QListWidget, change nothing, and ordinarily add some stock items in your MainWidget's constructor. See if the icons show up there.

setCentralWidget() causing the QMainWindow to crash.. Why?

Now, i want user to select File->Open.. A Dialog appears and file gets selected.. Its contents are to be displayed in *textEdit widget..

JimDaniel is right in his last edit. Take a look at the source code of setCentralWidget():

Do you see that if your MainWindow already had centralWidget() Qt schedules this object for deletion by deleteLater()?
And centralWidget() is the root widget for all layouts and other widgets in QMainWindow. Not the widget which is centered on window. So each QMainWindow produced by master in Qt Creator already has this root widget. (Take a look at your ui_mainwindow.h as JimDaniel proposed and you will see).
And you schedule this root widget for deletion in your window constructor! Nonsense! =)
I think for you it's a good idea to start new year by reading some book on Qt. =)

Are you sure it's not label->hide() that's crashing the app? Perhaps Qt doesn't like you hiding the central widget. I use Qt but I don't mess with QMainWindow that often.
EDIT: I compiled your code. I can help you a bit. Not sure what the ultimate reason is as I don't use the form generator, but you probably shouldn't be resetting the central widget to your label, as it's also set by the designer, if you open the ui_mainwindow.h file and look in setupGui() you can see that it has a widget called centralWidget that's already set. Since you have used the designer for your GUI, I would use it all the way and put the label widget in there as well. That will likely fix your problems. Maybe someone else can be of more help...
I'm not sure I understood your problem, neither what the guys above said (which I guess are valid information) and it seems to be an old topic.
However, I think I had a problem that looks like this and solved it, so I want to contribute my solution in case it helps anyone.
I was trying to "reset" central widget using QLabels. I had three different ones, switch from first to second, then to third and failed to switch back to the first one.
This is my solution that worked:
Header file
QLabel *imageLabel;
Constructor
imageLabel = new QLabel("<img src='/folder/etc.jpg' />");
this->setCentralWidget(imageLabel);
Reset
imageLabel = NULL;
imageLabel = new QLabel("<img src='/folder/etc.jpg' />");
