MFC DateTime picker format changes when I open visual studio - c++

I have a form in which I have placed a MFC DateTimePicker control. I set its format property to Time. Work with my app and everything is fine. But when I close visual studio and open it the next time, format has changed to its default value.
I noticed everything saves just fine, since if I build my solution using devenv.exe at command line the dialogs are displayed correctly. So it seems to me that whenever I open VS, it changes my setting.
How do I avoid this?

Tried VS2010, the problem did not occur there. However the project I'm working on is using VS2003 so the problem still persists.

you are the 210th user of visual studio who found that bug but don't worry this will not show you from visual studio 2005 onward.
As per release note by Microsoft this issue came due to the,
behavior occurs because a problem exists in the Visual Studio .NET resource editor for Visual C++ projects.

The setup for this installation of visual studio is not complete, really?

I have been using Vs 2017 for several months on dev machine. This fine morning says setup incomplete. Am I missing something?
In this case you need to go to Control Panel => Programs and Features and choose Visual Studio and update it.
VS 2017 (15.6.6) was fine for me on Friday 6/1/18 on Windows 10, but same issue as OP today after a restart.
As suggested by the dialog and Retired Ninja, I ran the Visual Studio Installer (to 15.7.3 after updating VS Installer) and that fixed it.
Note that the 15.7.3 update was a 7.73 GB download. Your download size may vary.
This has happened to me for the last 3 upgrades in Visual Studio Enterprise 2017 (now again on upgrade to 15.9.21).
The fastest fix (and I'm not sure why) is simple and doesn't bomb your settings or take for ever.
In the Visual Studio Installer, click on Modify.
Click "Modify" on the bottom right corner.
Yes it says "Total space required 0 KB".

It will then act like it is downloading something. (not sure what)
It will then act like it is installing something. (again, not sure what)
Open Visual Studio 2017 and it works.

If you have an offline installation like me and can't simply re-run the Visual Studio Installer you can edit devenv.isolation.ini and change the last line to read SetupFinished=true. It will detect your trickery and complain, but at least it will launch again.
Edit: I ended up getting the Visual Studio Installer to fix the issue after choosing the "Download then Install" option. Maybe I was too impatient when I initially stopped the update? My above answer is useful when you need to get work done that isn't affected by the broken features, but you will likely encounter problems later on.
just had the same problem (without any reason with) vs 2019 prof, after googling and reading on that topic, just went to vsix, looked for some individual component to install/uninstall, randomly picked cloud explorer, uninstalled it and some dependent components and VS 2019 prof started normally

Solved: I did following steps, run the visual studio and it works for me.
In my case visual studio was working fine , I just restarted the PC, this popup was keep coming when I try to open visual studio.(in my case I was using VS 2019)
Go to this path "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2019\Enterprise\Common7\IDE"
Open devenv.isolation.ini, set SetupFinished=true and save.
Now open visual studio.

In my case did following steps:
Clear temp files (you can %temp% in run command and Shift+Delete files)
Restart your computer
Open visual studio it will work properly.
Update: Faced problem again after couple of days, This time I go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\Installer.
Click on retry.
Select one more feature which I had already installed on my Visual Studio
Click on modified and after installation it worked again.
This happened to me after I canceled a plugin update.
I solved by going to this site that has the latest update of Visual Studio.

After that, Visual Studio worked.
If your VS is already upgraded, thereĀ“s an option to "repair" on the installer.
For this problem, goto uninstall screen in control panel right-click visual studio and select option change, Installer page will open now, In that window without changing anything click modify. it will solve the problem. I'm using VS Professional 2017
I got the same error today morning. This is what I did:
I ran the visual studio installer then I clicked on Modify.
The installer was showing 0KB Required. I continued and then it downloaded and installed. (Not sure what).
After that installation, it was able to launch.

I was using Vs 2019 professional 16.6 and happened to me this issue one morning. I modified the installation by adding Azure Development tools even though I was not using it. This fixed the issue.
I just updated to 15.9.24 and I got this yet again, as I have my resolution above, and Visual Studio 2019 seems to be a lot better with avoid this issue. The installer for 2019 you do have to change something and do the modification, 2017 you don't have to change anything.

For VS2022, WIN11:
Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Microsoft Visual Studio Installer
Then, click on Change and resume the previous process.

ResXFileCodeGeneratorEx is not working for Visual Studio 2017

I use ResXFileCodeGeneratorEx for generating ids. This was working till the time I used Visual Studio 2010 IDE but it is not working for Visual Studio 2017.
Please help for the same.

The deleted answer to this question pointed to the location of a newly built ResXFileCodeGeneratorEx but was deleted because it only contained a single link and no context. I'm not the original answerer, but figured that it may still be valuable to have this information:
It seems to have been renamed to ResXCodeFileGeneratorEx, and if you search through the menu in Visual Studio under Tools > Extension and Updates, you need to search for "Extended Strongly Typed Resource Generator".
However, the internal name is still the same, so the Custom Tool action should remain ResXFileCodeGeneratorEx.
I'm not aware whether or not it works on Visual Studio 2019, but since the original source is still around, it oughtn't be too hard to resolve that yourself if you need it.
To install it, simply doubleclick the VSIX file, it will popup with the VS Version Instance Selector, where you can select to which of your VS 2017 instances (pro, community, preview) you want to install the extension to.

Visual Studio Failing to Create C++ Console Project

I have a problem where Visual Studio will not create a new C++ Console Application project. I can input the project name and location, but when I hit the create button it simply closes the project creator window and reopens it without creating anything. It will do this with both types of the standard C++ Win32 project templates. Everything else works and will load without this error, but for whatever reason Visual Studio will not create Win32 C++ project types. I have previously been able to create such projects in the past; the problem I am encountering is recent.
My version of Windows 10 has recently been updated to the most recent version, but I do not think this will have effected the program. I have tried to run the repair tool included with Visual Studio and running it as an administrator, but nothing has helped. Can you please tell me why Visual Studio might be refusing to create Win32 Projects and how to fix it?
Fixed it. I completely uninstalled Visual Studio and it worked fine after that. Rebooting didn't help; the reinstall did the trick.

Visual Studio doesn't recognize Unreal Engine

I'm a student in Videogame Development, and just starting out looking at Unreal.
And no, none of my teachers know anything about this.
I have installed Unreal Engine 4.13 and Visual Studio Community 2013 now 2015.
I'm trying to make a C++ project using Unreal Engine (using blueprints is out of question so this didn't help)
Now, when I make a basic C++ project, Visual Studio shows the following error message:
Unsupported
This version of Visual Studio is unable to open the following projects. The project types may not be installed or this version of Visual Studio may not support them.

Then my browser opens showing a Migration Report telling me that VS had an error with Project.vcxproj and UE4.vcxproj, although it copes with Engine, Games and Project.sln.
After this VS does show up without any further action, and it does automatically open *.h and *.cpp files for newly added classes in UE4.
Though it does edit and save these, it claims that all UE's code is wrong (with squiggles), and for compiling UE4 gives errors on pieces of code that apparently don't give errors on other's machines.
It would be much appreciated to be helped out, and I'm sure it would help others too who would have the same problem.

Starting with both the Unreal Engine Editor and Visual Studio closed, right click your .uproject file and select Generate Visual Studio project files, and then launch visual studio from the .sln file.
Once Visual Studio is open check your Solution Configuration is set to Development Editor. Then go to Debug > Start without Debugging (or Ctrl-F5). If everything compiles and the Editor opens again then you're good to go.
I uninstalled VS2013, installed VS2015 with all additional options checked, made a blank, new project with Unreal with just VS2015 on my pc, and now everything works fine.
Perhaps my VS2013 installation was broken, deprecated or switching version wasn't a good idea, but I can work with VS in any case now.

Install newer version of the Visual Studio. VS2013 is not the latest one, VS2015 is. People report that even updating VS2013 from Update 2 to Update 4 helps resolving similar issues.

No Auto Complete Visual Studio 2010

Im using MS visual studio 2010 PRoofessional version , and in both languages I'm using (C++ and UnrealScript with Nfringe ) there seems to be no auto complete , also with the nfringe there is no auto indentation either .
I was wondering how to fix this?
Most probably you accidentally switched into low-impact IntelliSense mode by pressing
CTRL+ALT+SPACE Just hit CTRL+ALT+SPACE to go back to the IntelliSense mode.
Are you writing a totally unmanaged C++ dll? There is no intellisense support for CLI/C++ projects in VS 2010
I have actually problems with C++ and Intellisense since VC6...
We now use Whole Tomatoes "Visual Assist" and it repairs Intellisense. :-) This single feature is the money worth.
When you open the solution file, do you get a warning about being unable to open the IntelliSense database? If so, that's the reasonā€”UnrealEngine intentionally has a directory with the same name as the IntelliSense database to prevent its creation (Visual Studio can't create a file if a directory of the same name already exists). The engine code base is so large that having IntelliSense enabled slows everything to a crawl when you're editing code.
I'm also using Unreal Engine, and I met the same problem before, the solution was set the dirs by myself in VS project setting.
Open the property window of ur game project(e.g UDKGame), navigate to "NMake", "Include Search Path", and fill the needed header search path there.
You may copy the path list from the output of UnrealBuildTool.
The values u set here is only used by Visual Studio's IntelliSense, so there's no need to worry about build error.
This only works for C++, I'm not sure what's wrong with Unreal Script. I just updated to Visual Studio 2010 and has not installed the new nFringe.
