We have a word 2003 template we use as the basis for a configuration sheet for a system. The whole thing is based around form fields and the template is then locked. To write a new document we double click on the template, fill in the form fields, save and off we go.
The problem Ive got is that when finished writing in the "doc" file and closing or saving I always get a dialog asking if I want to save changes to the template as well. Even if I just double click the template "dot" file so that a blank "doc" file based on this is opened and then close that document straightaway I still get the save template query.
Is there anyway I can get rid of it as its damned annoying to everyone who uses the template.

I've just had Word 2003 opened with no documents or templates opened. I use file open and open the template. Once it is open I then close it again. No "do you want to save" messages. I then use windows explorer and double click on the same template to create a document. I wait til the document is sitting in word ready to use. I then click close again without typing or changing anything - After the do you want to save changes to "Document 2" which I say no to, I then get the "do you want to save the template" message.
Further further note:
I have now tracked this to some code I have that adds a toolbar and buttons. within this code is a line customizationcontext = Thisdocument and then the toolbar and buttons are created. If I change the line to CustomizationContext = ActiveDocument I then do not get the prompt for saving when I close a document created from the template. I do however now get the prompt if I open the template and close it without changing anything(also the buttons I added do not appear correctly (but they do appear in the document))! I can live with this though as it is preferable than the other way round.
The most common reason for this to happen, is that one of your formats (paragraph or other) is marked to update the source template if changed.
Check all the used formats in your template if the option to save back changes is activated and de-activate this option - the same applies to any .doc already created from this template since it will carry over this option.
To check your formats (in Word 2003), open the sidebar for styles and formatting, change the filter at the bottom to "Used formats". Move your pointer over the format you like to inspect and select the action "Modify..." from the pull down menu at the right.
On the bottom right - just above the OK-button - you'll find the checkbox labeled "Automatically update".

I am having serious problems customizing my views template to displayblog entries in drupal 7.
please anyone with knowledge of what can help me please reply. i have gone through a couple of drupal documentations but no luck. my field.tpl.php seem to be the only template that actually affect my displays even though i have views-view-field.tpl.php, views-view--blog.tpl.php in the template .
In the view settings, under format, show, make sure you have fields selected, not content.
Under advanced, theme, click information to see which template files are being used, and click rescan if necessary.
If you have created or edited a view, please check under FORMAT section this should be Show:Fields and under Advanced section look for Theme:Information and click onto this, there will be a popup with all possible templates for the display plugin and for the style plugins. All field tpl will be available here those are exists in views fields, you can find your own and use as per your requirement.
When you edit your view open "Advanced" section on the right (collapsed by default) and click on "Information" from "Theme: Information" (last option in that section). There you can see what templates are used (bolded ones) and what could be used instead. You can even click on template description at the beginning of the line, and code will be displayed. Grab that code (copy) and create new template file with one of offered names. Place that template file in your theme and clear the cache. Now you can modify template by your needs.
Also, you even don't have to use all that hierarchy (even that's desirable), but you can i.e. find the template file that are looping over the rows and inside that loop put your html, so lower rank templates won't be included (i.e. template that iterates over fields or even over rows) . Again not so clear solution, but it works for me. I prefer having less template files and I know that nobody will work on that theme except me.
We have a rendering listing the selected items in a TreeSelect in the current item. In our case we call them "Tags" (1)
We have added a Field Editor Button to the component to let the editor change selected items. (2) (As described on for example Adding a custom component)
When an editor clicks (2) the editor window (3) it is opened in a dialog. The editor may select different items(called tags in our case) using the TreeSelect.
When the editor presses the ok-button (4) the values are set.
Now to the problem:
The values are actually set as they get stored when the editor presses the Save button but we want our list on the page (1) to immediately reflect the set items when the editor presses the ok-button (4), i.e. before having to actually save the whole item.
How do we achieve that?
(I am in contacts with Sitecore support but so far I have not gotten any answers...)

After a lot of conversation with the support we still have no useful solution.
We tried turning it into a field renderer displaying the links.
What worked was:
The field do get updated when you have edited it in the popup field editor. (but...)
It looks good the first time when page is loaded.
You can make a WebEdit button with commands to edit the field and add it as Custom button to the field (register <command name="webedit:fieldeditor" type="Sitecore.Shell.Applications.WebEdit.Commands.FieldEditor, Sitecore.Client"/> and set Click on the button to webedit:fieldeditor(command={3473DDA1-2983-493C-AF7A-054C75AA7AD3},fields=NameOfField where the guid points to itelf and an "Icon" is set on it.)
What didn't work was:
The field get updated by the raw value, not what I want to display. Server code is involved, but not in the rendering of html-code.
When I want to edit the value in the field editor, the value sent to the field editor is not the raw value but what actually is displayed on the page. (I guess this can be solved somehow)
The issue to the support turned into a feature request to let the server be involved in rendering the field, not just sending a new value to the JavaScript updating it. The server does the first rendering so when it already is involved in updating, it should be allowed to do the rendering the following times too.
We have decided to not spend more time on this right now (we have other things to do too.) and have a bad editor experience as the field not get updated until the editor actually saves the item.
Still we have no suitable solution for this issue. If you want to keep working on it and want a reference to my issue it is 439059.
This may not be useful here. I've done this in normal sites, but not in Sitecore. But, here's one possibility....
This is a situation where you would pass a callback function to the child popup window. This callback will cause the caller / parent window to re-read/re-load the information that was just updated by the child.
Example:
User presses (2) to open Editor Window(3) (Editor window is opened and the Callback function is passed as a parameter)
User presses "OK" button (4). The "OK" button event handler updates the changes, then calls the Callback function which re-loads the now updated information, and closes the popup window.
Once the popup closes, the parent window now displays the information that the popup/editor just updated.
This takes some client side javascript (jquery) development but it is quite do-able normally.
INTRODUCTION AND RELEVANT INFORMATION:
I am maintaining an old application and I need to implement feature that generates reports based on data calculated from a database. User must also have an additional option of printing the file ( user must be able to choose printer, and must be able to see print preview ).
To improve my chances of getting satisfactory answer, allow me to additionally clarify matters with a small "example":
User presses a button -> application calculates data; // Done
Application creates file and populates it with the result; // Done
User gets informed that report is generated; // Done
User presses another button that is charged for printing; // Stuck here!
Print preview pops up and an option to run print dialog. // Stuck here
User starts the print dialog, chooses the printer and application prints the file;
The application is coded in C++ using raw WinAPI ( no MFC ). I am working on Windows XP.
PROBLEM:
I was able to successfully use OLE Automation to generate/save Word and Excel reports but I can not create print preview that matches exactly the print preview Word would create.
If I use OLE Automation to show Excel's print dialog/print preview, there is a following problem that might occur :
User can simply click "Close Print Preview", or can simply close print property sheet ( please see picture below ) and return to the document which might compromise document's data.
My employers do not like this ( they have no software engineering / developing background, so no matter what I say it will end up as an "echo in the wind"... ) and they wish that my print preview matches exactly the print preview Word generates.
Therefore, I need a solution for generating a print preview for the user, in a way that matches exactly print preview Word would create. Furthermore, user should be able only to see how this looks like, but not to be able to open the file from my application. User should be able to choose the printer that will print the file.
An implementation similar to the one from the picture would be fine.

Since this is my first time to tackle this kind of task, can you recommend me the proper way to handle it ( general concepts of course )?
Is there a chance that there is a workaround for my printing problem ( like sending WM_PRINTCLIENT message to the Word / Excel or something like that )?
REMARKS :
Again, I realize the question is too broad so just give me general concepts / pointers, so I could post separate questions if I get stuck somewhere in the way.
I do not need to use Word / Excel and OLE Automation, it was my choice at the moment.
If you can recommend better solution I will gladly accept. I do not wish to use libraries.

You would need to bring up a dialog box when the user clicks the print button, the dialog box would contain a control that shows the preview for the default printer and three buttons to select another printer, print and exit.
The preview control could be a static control where the WM_PAINT handler would draw the preview (alternatives: a Web Browser control which is fed html text or a RichText control which is fed RTF text, but then you are constrained by the functionality of these controls).

I have just been given a ms-powerpoint template document to fix. It was created by designers using the slide master editor in MS-Office 2011 for Mac. The problem is that when the customer creates a new slide using one of these templates and then wants to insert a chart into one of the designated boxes (which is only one of the things that can be stuck in there) the text in the chart is always set at 18pt. I've looked everywhere for a setting that sets the default font size for charts (and smart art) for only that document but have been unable to find it.
Any pointers or help of any kind would be more than great.
I received the following answer from James Gordon from a Microsoft forum:
Charts are handled by Excel. In Excel you can create Chart Template,
which are saved in (.crtx) file format and will appear in the Ribbon.
The way to do it is to customize a chart and then right-click on the
chart. Use the Save As Template option from the pop-up menu. If you
save your template in the Chart Templates folder (the default when the
save dialog opens), after you quit and then re-open Excel, the
template will be available to you in the Ribbon.
SmartArt is within your PowerPoint presentation. There are various
approaches you might take regarding SmartArt. As you pointed out,
SmartArt can be specified in a Slide Master, or on Slide Design.
Saving a presentation as a Theme (.thmx) is one option. Another save
option is to save as a Template, which is more comprehensive (includes
every aspect of a slide show).
I'm working on a project that collects data from the project then displays it using xfdf to populate a .pdf file. Now when I use Chrome or Firefox it opens in a new tab which is exactly what I want, but some of my clients will be using IE, which opens it in the same window and causes some confusion. What area of the code should I be looking at in order to tackle and solve this problem?
I can show code examples, just let me know what I need to show.

Edit: When I click 'Print Application' button, it asks me to save or open the file. When they click open, it opens in the same tab, I want it to appear in a new tab.
In my experience, the best way to accomplish this is to alter your template linking to the PDF. For example:
