Does the Facebook graph API have a "/me" resource? - facebook-graph-api

I'm looking at the reference for the Facebook Graph API but cannot see documentation for a /me resource so I can get the profile of the access token I hold.
I'm looking at v5.0 but no version of the API docs discusses this resource.
This is for configuring my OAuth2 login library which is working for Google and Microsoft (which both have a /me) but I'm lost with Facebook.
Note - I do not wish to use the Facebook JS SDK but "normal" OAuth2 flow using browser redirects and a server-side backchannel.

Yes, its just buried here:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/graph-api/using-graph-api/#me
The /me node is a special endpoint that translates to the user_id of the person (or the page_id of the Facebook Page) whose access token is currently being used to make the API calls. If you had a User access token, you could retrieve all of a User's photos by using:
GET graph.facebook.com
/me/photos
In the same linked doc, just below "/me", it mentions using ?fields=x,y,z to reduce or expand the set of fields to return.

Facebook Messenger subscribed apps, page and app access token generation

I am hitting a wall while developing seamless integration of a Facebook page with my bot.
Essentially I want to achieve same integration than Chatfuel or Manychat have, where being logged in with your Facebook account lets you to just choose what page you are connecting to them and you are good to go.
The problem I am facing is generating the proper token in order to bind the selected page to my app (bot). As per Facebook documentation:
When you create a subscribed_apps edge, the page-id you use in endpoint must match the page ID of the page access token used in the API call. The app that the access token is for is installed for the page.
Given the call has no other parameter than the access token, this access token has to be enough for Facebook to:
Authorize the action on the page.
Identify what app is being subscribed to the page.
This is confirmed while using the Facebook Graph API Explorer, where one selects the page and the app to bind and a proper access token is generated:
This token properly works using cURL in the terminal:
$ curl -X POST 'https://graph.facebook.com/v3.0/<MY_APP_ID_HERE>/subscribed_apps?access_token=<TOKEN_PASTED_FROM_GRAPH_API_EXPLORER>'
{"success":true}
With the Facebook Access token debugger (info icon on the left of the access token, then open in Access token tool), it is confirmed that the token knows about both the page and the app that have to be connected.
The question is, how are these page-app related token programmatically produced? I can't seem to find the proper API call in Facebook documentation and it is by all means possible, as Chatfuel and Manychat are doing this.
Thanks in advance for your support Lars Schwarz and community!
Adding some detail to Alex's answer, for it to be more complete.
When subscribing an app to a page, Facebook needs to:
Know what app you are talking about.
Know what page you are talking about.
Know that you have permissions on that page to subscribe an app.
How does Facebook know it all?
1 comes from the fact that Facebook login happens in the context of a page, actually, the Javascript code for Facebook contains your appId:
js.src = 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v3.0&appId=<YOUR_APP_ID_IS_HERE>&autoLogAppEvents=1';
2 Comes from the page_id in the URL used to subscribe apps to pages:
https://graph.facebook.com/v3.0/YOUR_APP_ID_HERE/subscribed_apps?access_token=YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN_HERE
3 Comes from the access token, obtained in the context of an APP through Facebook login, that is passed as parameter in the URL used to subscribe apps to pages:
https://graph.facebook.com/v3.0/YOUR_APP_ID_HERE/subscribed_apps?access_token=YOUR_ACCESS_TOKEN_HERE
To do this, you need to put FB Login on your site/customer portal and request pages_messaging and manage_pages permissions. The person that logs in must be a Page Admin.
Once your app has been granted that permission for the page, you can generate a page access token as described here:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/pages/access-tokens

Graph API: All Mutual Friends Returning Empty List

All mutual friends request made from my app server (node) (also tried the Facebook API explorer) suddenly started returning an empty array for the data field. I confirmed and validated my access token and appsecret_proof on the API explorer. Do you know what has changed or what the request below is missing?
Note: both users use the app and have granted user_friends permission.
I am using v2.12
request
{
url: 'https://graph.facebook.com/v2.12/{user-facebookid}?fields=context.fields(all_mutual_friends.limit(5000))',
qs: {access_token: 'XXXXX'
,
appsecret_proof: crypto.createHmac('sha256', clientSecret).update(accessToken).digest('hex')
}
Yep. Facebook has taken down the Graph API for page access tokens. The only way to retrieve data (or was a week or so ago), was a temporary user token that lasts about 2 hours. It's totally broken my band's schedule page. I've been through every avenue and even spoke with a facebook ad team employee on the phone that was aware of it. She seemed to empathize but had no solution for me. I would count on it being down for a while.
I have finally figured out a work around for this. On your fb application, you have to disable the secret key requirement. This can be found under the advance settings of your fb application console. It's called "
Require App Secret".
Once you generate a fb PAGE access token, you get a fb page token, and then extend it.
here is the token debugger:
https://developers.facebook.com/tools/explorer/
You can extend the access token programmatically as explained here:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/access-tokens/expiration-and-extension
AND
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/facebook-login/access-tokens/#pagetokens
There is also an extend tool in the access token debugger.

Sending email (Office 365) using postman without logging in from browser

I would like to send an email on behalf of a user using Postman (Office 365). I have the email id and password of that account. After doing some research, I have found that I need to login, using a browser, to get the authorization code and then I can perform the next steps from Postman (getting the access token and using the Microsoft Graph Explorer) to send the email.
I would like to get the authorization code using Postman (not browser). I tried and got the following error (which is what should come the way I have requested the API)-
In short, I want to send email from Graph API using a REST client like Postman (right from authorization to sending email). Is this possible?
(I have already read these documents but did not help me get there-
https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/docs/concepts/rest
Accessing Microsoft Graph API without using login page
Automatically Log-In To Office 365
)
Yes, it is very possible, in fact, you can use all of the Microsoft Graph API from Postman or any other program which can make HTTP requests.
All you need to do is to get access token to use in your requests to the Graph API, and there at least 4 ways which allow you to do so without user interaction. But the process requires some preparation since you need to create an OAuth App in order to be able to use the Graph API.
Since I had to do the same myself and it wasn't easy to collect all the bits of information necessary, I've written a full guide on this subject including Postman examples:
Getting Access Token for Microsoft Graph Using OAuth REST API
In large you need to do the following steps:
Register OAuth App
Configuring App Permission
Use one of the following flows, depending on the information you have:
Flow 1: Get Access Token from Client Credentials (Client credentials Grant)
Flow 2 – Get Access Token From Client & User Credentials (Resource Owner Credentials Grant)
Flow 3 – Get Access Token From Refresh Token (Refresh Token Grant)
Flow 4 – Get Access Token From Another Access Token (On-Behalf-Of Grant)
Use the access token in requests to Microsoft Graph API
All of those steps are explained in the article.

How to Pass Username and Password using POSTMAN - Rest Client?

I am a new bee in using POSTMAN - Rest Client - Chrome API
I want to use the Basic Auth which is available in POSTMAN.
I am trying to login into my Google account at url - "https://www.gmail.com".
I provided my Username & Password in the Basic Auth and I had tried GET and POST.
I got a Status 200 OK which loads me the home page but it is not logged in.
I know that i need to change the url, but i am not able to find the correct one which to use?
It would be helpful if #examples are provided for the Different Types of Auth Provided as well.
The link you have provided is deprecated. I don't know if the Gmail API allowed Basic Auth at the time you asked the question, but right now it needs OAuth 2.0, as indicated in the opening lines here.
The correct url is https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/auth, and this link explains how to supply the parameters.
If I remember correctly, Google stopped allowing http clients(like Postman) accessing its APIs through Basic Auth one year back or more. Now, Google allowing its APIs to be accessed using OAuth 2.0.
For accessing Google APIs, you need to setup an OAuth Application, here
When you create this OAuth Application, Google will generate ClientId and ClientSecret.
With these clientId and clientSecret, you need to generate Access and Refresh Tokens and eventually, you will use these tokens to access Google APIs.
Read more about Google OAuth 2.0 and you will get more information about accessing APIs.

Why http://www.friend.ly can get information when I don't confirm

I really surprise when use http://www.friend.ly site. I'm login Facebook and after go to http://www.friend.ly. I'm surprise because I don't confirm extended permission but this site can get email, address... Any ideas?
My Information
Information get from friend.ly site
They are using the Facebook Registration Plugin which basically renders an iframe from Facebook's server. Due to cross-domain browser restrictions, they can't actually access any of that data until you submit the form by clicking the register button.
If you read the section on the Graph API documentation about authorization you'll see that if they're using an OAuth 2.0 access token then they can retrieve any information that you have publicly available without your authorization. You can see the examples below.
The Graph API as such allows you to easily access all public information about an object. For example, https://graph.facebook.com/btaylor (Bret Taylor) returns all the public information about Bret. For example a user's first name, last name and profile picture are publicly available.
To get additional information about a user, you must first get their permission. At a high level, you need to get an access token for the Facebook user. After you obtain the access token for the user, you can perform authorized requests on behalf of that user by including the access token in your Graph API requests:
https://graph.facebook.com/220439?access_token=...
For example https://graph.facebook.com/btaylor?access_token=... (Bret Taylor) returns additional information about Bret Taylor.
The Graph API uses OAuth 2.0 for authorization. Please read the authentication guide which provides details of Facebook's OAuth 2.0 implementation, how to request permissions from a user and obtain an access token.
Getting an access token for a user with no extended permissions allows you to access the information that the user has made available to everyone on Facebook. If you need specific information about a user, like their email address or work history, you must ask for the specific extended permissions. The reference documentation for each Graph API object contains details about the permissions you need to access each connection and property on that object.
